For those visiting Chicago in spring, make sure to have your wine glass handy. These awesome wine festivals are sure to get you tipsy while helping you explore local culture through the palate.
1. Chicagoland Artisan Chocolate Festival & Wine Tasting
Dates: April 11-12, 2015
Presented by Fine Artisan Events, the Chicagoland Artisan Chocolate Festival & Wine Tasting pairs two of life’s greatest pleasures. Not only will you eat, but you’ll learn as demonstrations, workshops and lectures revolving around wine and chocolate are also part of the fun. Bonus: A portion of the proceeds go toward benefiting the local Bear Necessities Pediatric Cancer Foundation.
2. West of West Wine (WOW) Festival
Dates: May 20, 2015
Hosted by City Winery, the West of West Wine (WOW) Festival showcases wines from the cool climate of the Sonoma Coast in California, known for their chardonnay and pinot noir. You’ll learn about grape growing, the wine making process and how to properly taste a nice glass of vino.
3. Tinley Park Brew & Vine Festival
Dates: May 2, 2015
Can’t decide whether you like wine or beer more? Then the Tinley Park Brew & Vine Festival at the Tinley Park Convention Center, is for you. This wonderful union of grapes and hops means that for $25-30 (depending when you buy your ticket) you can savor 12 tastings, take home a commemorative glass and enjoy live local music — not to mention delicious bites from vendors like I Give A Dip, Stamper Cheese, Creative Cakes and Wingstop.
4. Wine Riot
Dates: May 15-16, 2015
Held at the Great Hall at Union Station, Wine Riot puts a tasting glass in your hand and lets you loose into a world of 250+ wines. It’s like traveling the world through the palate, with sips coming from all corners of the earth. Education is also part of this must-have Chicago experience, with booths offering mini classes, experiments and workshops, while a DJ sets the scene with lively music.
5. Capture Artisan Wine Tour
Dates: June 12-13, 2015
This traveling USA event is all about showcasing artisan wines crafted by small producers as well as farm-to-table food and good music. Unlike traditional tastings that can be a bit formal, the Capture Artisan Wine Tour creates a laid-back atmosphere that makes mingling and wine tasting educational yet fun. Their Chicago event will be held at the Great Hall at Union Station.
